KEITI supports improvement of environmental health and welfare for socially-vulnerable people.

Environmental Health and Safety Management for Children

  • Supervise compliance of environmental safety management standards in children’s activity zones, such as elementary schools, kindergarten and daycare centers, jointly with local governments and offices of education and offer support for inspection
    • Look into local governments and education offices’ demand for supervision and inspection of these places and work together with officials in charge at relevant local governments and education offices for inspection
    • Improve indoor environment and monitor some facilities that were found to be inadequate in their compliance with environmental safety management standards after the inspection
  • Issue Certification of Environmental Safety of Children’s Activity Zones (daycare centers and kindergarten)
    • Evaluate whether a facility that has applied for the certificate is eligible* to receive Certification of Environmental Safety of Children’s Activity Zones (application reviews and on-site inspection) and issue certificates after deliberation by the Certificate Deliberation Committee
    • * Compliance with the Environmental Safety Management Standards under the Environmental Health Act and the Mandatory Standards for Maintaining Indoor Air Quality, etc. under the Indoor Air Quality Control Act; whether the facility falls under the definition of asbestos building under Asbestos Safety Management Act, and whether there has been an administrative disposition by relevant acts

  • Look into safety management of environmental risk factors in children’s products and operate a market monitoring group
    • Purchase and analyze children’s products currently in the market to see whether the products comply with the standards applicable to the materials used and prohibit distribution of products that violate these standards
    • Monitor whether products that received an administrative disposition are being sold on the market again and inspect new types of products, such as slimes, with the help of the market monitoring group, appointed by the Ministry of Environment
  • Support manufacturers of children’s products in self monitoring
    • Analyze materials used in children’s products and offer customized services to the manufacturers of these products to help them develop and implement a self-monitoring plan* so that they can voluntarily manage and reduce environmental risk factors
    * Help manufacturers develop the plan to reduce and control environmental risk factors that could arise in the process of manufacturing/importing children’s products by building a database on environmental risk factors, raw materials used and manufacturing processes

Environmental Disease Prevention for the Vulnerable Groups

  • Analyze and offer consulting services on indoor environmental risk factors to the vulnerable classes
    • Select vulnerable households, senior activity zones and welfare centers and measure and analyze a total of 7 indoor environmental risk factors*
    • * Fine dust (PM-10, PM-2.5), fungi, CO2, TVOC, HCHO, dust mites, etc.
    • Explain how to reduce and control each indoor environmental risk factor, draft an analysis report and explain the report in detail, after which the ways to control these risk factors are to be explained again
  • Support renovation to improve indoor environment for households that require immediate improvement in indoor environment
    • After completing indoor environment analysis and consulting, select a few households (facilities) that require immediate assistance/improvement and renovate the houses
  • Support treatment of patients suffering from environmental diseases
    • Work together with environmental health centers and medical centers to offer free treatment and examination to children, youth and seniors suffering from environmental diseases
